We are a part of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), the Institute for Systems Research (ISR), the Maryland NanoCenter, and the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEII). Affiliate departments are the Fischell Department of Bioengineering (BIOE) and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE).

The research activities at MSAL are currently supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Army Research Office (ARO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our research projects were also supported previously by the Army Research Lab (ARL), the Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS), the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), Toshiba and Northrop Grumman corporations.
