Xiaobo Tan is working on a smart sensing panel to investigate the sea lamprey’s instinct to suck

The invasive sea lamprey has threatened native species in the Great Lakes for quite some time. MSAL alumnus, Xiaobo Tan, and his colleagues are developing a “smart” sensing panel to determine the sea lamprey’s suction pressure dynamics to investigate a way to control the invasive species. The Michigan State University team has published a paper, “Measurement of suction pressure dynamics of sea lampreys, Petromyzon marinus,” explaining their research.  (12 - Aug/ 2021)
